Columbia Area Earth Day Festival on April 26, 2026

Earth Month is here, and the City of Columbia will once again be part of the Columbia Area Earth Day Festival on April 26, 2026. If weather gets in the way, the rain date is May 3. Keep reading to learn a little about Earth Day, why it still matters, and how you can join the celebration this year.

Earth Day, celebrated every April, is a chance to come together around environmental education, community action, and appreciation for the planet we all share. Since the first Earth Day in 1970, the event has helped inspire generations of people to think more seriously about clean air, clean water, conservation, and the systems that shape our daily lives. Today, it remains a reminder that meaningful progress starts with people showing up, learning more, and taking action together.

Here in Columbia, building a more resilient, sustainable city takes more than one project or one department. It takes all of us. Earth Day offers a chance to celebrate the progress already underway, connect with neighbors and local organizations, and find practical ways to be part of the work ahead.

One of the best ways to take part is by heading to the Columbia Area Earth Day Festival on Sunday, April 26. The street fair will be open from noon to 6:30 p.m., Peace Park Stage programming will run from noon to 7:00 p.m., and Kids’ Park will be open from noon to 5:00 p.m. The festival brings together environmental organizations, community groups, families, and local supporters for a full day of learning, celebration, and hands-on fun.

A big part of the experience is Eco Avenue, the sustainability-focused block on Elm Street between 7th and 8th, with some booths extending into the park. Visitors can stop by to find sustainable living tips, learn about solar, composting, stormwater, native plants, local food systems, biking and transit, conservation, and more. It is a great place to discover local groups and businesses helping people live a little greener in everyday life.

Families can also check out Kids’ Park, an interactive area designed to help children explore nature and learn how to care for the planet in fun, engaging ways. It is built for kids of all ages, with activities that make environmental learning feel hands-on and approachable.

There are also plenty of ways to get involved beyond attending. The festival is currently looking for volunteers, with opportunities available throughout the day, from early morning setup through evening wrap-up. Organizers are also inviting people to participate through Kids’ Park activities, educational displays, and planning support.

Whether you come for the music, the community energy, the activities for kids, or the chance to learn something new, the Columbia Area Earth Day Festival is a great way to celebrate Earth Month close to home. We hope you will join us on April 26 and help make this year’s celebration another strong reminder that local action matters. See you there.
